The Birthplace of Transparent Beauty

The Detox Market began as a pop-up shop on Abbot Kinney Boulevard, in Venice, California. That was back in 2010, when many people weren’t aware of the kinds of  ingredients or environmental footprint of their personal care products.

Our founder, Romain Gaillard, recognized that bringing together the best in clean makeup and skincare—in a beautiful and inclusive space designed to encourage learning, exploring and having fun—would not only help people make informed decisions about what they were putting on their skin, but be a catalyst for change in the under-regulated beauty industry.

Since then, The Detox Market has opened stores in Toronto, New York and California, where we curate, create and carefully vet clean and sustainable beauty and wellness products for a growing community. We continue to inspire change with initiatives like our commitment to be plastic neutral by 2023, by prioritizing ingredient transparency, and—as always—in sharing our knowledge with our customers, and cheering them on at every step of their journey.

From the hundreds of submissions we receive each year, less than two percent earn a spot in our curation. To pass the test, products have to be unquestionably best in class, free from anything on our Banned Ingredients List, and made by founders who share our passion for transparency and authenticity.
